第四，互联网有助于拓宽青少年的思路和视野，加强青少年之间的交流和沟通，增强青少年的社会参与度，开发青少年内在的潜能。由于互联网的包容性，使上网的青少年处于和现实生活完全不同的环境中，在思考的过程中，青少年不仅锻炼了自己独立思考问题的能力，而且也提高了自己对事物的分析力和判断力；网络的互动性使青少年可以通过网上聊天室或者是BBS等方式广交朋友，参与社会问题的讨论，发表观点见解；而网络的无边无际也会极大的激发青少年的好奇心和求知欲，使其潜质和潜能能有效地开发出来。
