D2 - REQUIREMENTS
For the D2 assignment, given some informal documentation about the system and the needs
of its “client”, you and your team were required to deliver a requirements specification using
the Volere Requirement Shell.
1 The D2 Assignment required you to use the Volere Requirements Shell. This incorporates a
number of different components, one of which is called the “Fit Criterion”. Which ONE of the
following is the CORRECT definition of a “Fit Criterion”?
A. specifies a benchmark that allows the tester to determine whether the implemented
product has met the requirement
B. specifies how important is the requirement to this stakeholder
C. identifies a real-world event of a model, e.g. a context diagram
D. states what the requirement will achieve
E. permits tracking of the requirement during successive changes
D3 - DESIGN
For the D3 assignment, given the requirements, you and your team were required to deliver a
number of diagrams representing and documenting aspects of the system design. These
were Use-Cases, Level 1 & 2 DFDs, and a type of Storyboard.
2 Out of the following statements, which ONE does NOT apply to storyboarding in Software
Engineering?
A. Its purpose is pre-visualizing interactive media sequences
B. It was initially developed by Walt Disney Studios during the early 1930s for use in
film
C. Storyboards are graphic organizers
D. It mainly supports the design of software systems concerned with animated
graphics
E. A storyboard can be a series of illustrations or images displayed in sequence
3 In the D3 Assignment Briefing, there was in effect a change to the original requirements
expressed in an e-mail from a senior manager at inIT Systems to the design team clarifying
the role of the front line reception staff.
‘You should note that following a meeting last week with the client, it has been clarified that
“front line” reception staff at the reception facility in the Security Office do not have the
authority to grant athletic team members the necessary permissions to access the venues.
The business process is that, when an athletic team member contacts Reception, the
reception staff need to call the admin staff to grant the necessary authorization. The admin
staff work in a separate “back office” department (the “Admissions Office”) within the
Security Office and carry out the necessary security vetting.’
What is the MAIN lesson that could be learnt from this example
A. e-mails of this nature are helpful in clarifying unclear requirements
B. communications from senior managers should always be read
C. members of the design team should always accompany senior managers when
visiting clients
D. e-mails of this nature that fall outside the normal agreed design processes are easy
to miss and should be avoided
E. The Waterfall process model is not suitable for this type of project
