功能：用作主语,宾语,定语
1．another 别的,另一个,泛指众多中一个．一般后面接单数名词,前面不能加定冠词
例1：I don't like this one.Show me another.我不喜欢这个,给我看看另一个好吗?(another 作宾语)
例2：This book is too difficult forme.Will you please give me another one(=another book)?
这本书对我而言太难了,可以给我另一本呢?（作定语）
2．the other 表示两个中的一个,常与one 连用:
one ...the other...
例：I have two pecils;one is red;the other is blue.
我有两支铅笔,一支是红的,另一支是蓝的．
3．other+名词＝ others（别的）
例1：Some are listening to the radio,others are watching TV.
一些人在听广播,一些人在看电视．
例2：Some students went to the Summer Palace,other students(=others)stayed at home last Sunday.
上周日,一些学生去颐和园,一些学生呆在家里．
4.the other+名词=the others 译为其余的,相当于the rest
例：Some of the pencils are red.The others(=the other pencils)are green.有些铅笔是红的,其余的都是绿的．
①other可以作形容词用，后面可以跟单数或复数名词，意思是“其他的、别的”。

I haven't any other books except this one.
②other 也可以用作代词，与冠词the连用构成“the other”，表示两个人或物中的“另一个”。常与one 搭配构成“one…，the other.”句型。
He has two brothers.One is 10 years old，the other is 5 years old.
She held a ruler in one hand and an exercise-book in the other.
③other作代词用时，可以有复数“others”，泛指“另外的人或物”。常与some 搭配构成“some..，others.”句型。

④“the others”表示特指某范围内的“其他的人或物”。
We got home by 4 o'clock，but the others didn't get back until8
