一、which仅用于指物，that既可用于指物，也可用于指人。

二、同时指代人和物、指代的东西不是很确定的都有that。

三、不能用that的情况：
1、用逗号分隔开的非限定性定语从句中不用that；
比如:
I became a single mother overnight, which is nothing like becoming famous overnight.(正确)
I became a single mother overnight, that is nothing like becoming famous overnight.（错误）

2、介词后不能用that。
比如：
The world in which we live is made up of matter.(正确)
The world in that we live is made up of matter.(错误)
