方位词 ，是表示方向或位置的词，分单纯词的和合成的两类。单纯的方位词是“上、下、前、后、左、右、东、西、南、北、里、外、中、内、旁”。

简介

合成的方位词由单纯词以下列方式构成：

（a）前边加“以”或“之”。如，以上（Above）、之下（Under）。

（b）后边加“边”、“面”、“头”。如：前边、左面，里头。

（c）对举。如，上下、前后、里外。

（d）其他。如，底下、头里、当中。

在古代，方位词也用另外一种表示，即：

青龙的方位是东，代表春季；

朱雀的方位是南，代表夏季；

白虎的方位是西，代表秋季；

玄武的方位是北，代表冬季。
