California位於美国西南部、太平洋东海岸的狭长地带，四周为山脉，中央为谷地，具有夏干、冬湿的独特气候类型，被称为是“葡萄酒的桃花园”。根据品种区域化和土壤气候条件，将加州划分为5个各具特色的葡萄产区，从南往北依次为：（1）Coachella（考施拉)产区，占加州葡萄总面积的2%；（2）Monterey（蒙特瑞）产区，占加州葡萄总面积的9%；（3）Fresno（弗瑞斯诺）产区，是加州最大的葡萄产区，加州葡萄70%集中在该地区；（4）Lodi（洛蒂）产区，占6%；（5）Napa（纳帕）产区，占13%，由老龄的葡萄籐所出产的葡萄酿出的Zinfandel（仙粉黛）更是那里的代表。有10多个大、中型葡萄酒厂和数以百计的葡萄酒庄。其中最经典的是Napa Valley（纳帕谷）
