当时，刘易斯·卡帕尔迪正在录制另一首歌曲，歌中的和弦启发他创作了《Someone You Loved》的部分旋律。2个月后，他在家中后院的小屋里用钢琴创作了该曲的副歌。之后，刘易斯·卡帕尔迪和伦敦唱作三人组TMS进入录音室，用了大概半个小时完成了该曲的录制工作。
