1. “小方,你倒没生病?哦,我明白了!鲍小姐秀色可餐,你看饱了不用吃饭了。”

“Little Fang, you didn’t get sick? Oh, I get it! Miss Pao’ s beauty is such a feast to the eye, and yougot your fill just looking at her anddidn’t have to eat.”

Sherry的笔记:

形容某人秀色可餐:one’s beauty is a feast to the eye.

Chicago provides a feast for the ears of any music lover.

《芝加哥》将给所有音乐爱好者献上一场听觉的盛宴。

Getone’s fill 除了表示吃饱了,还有受够了这层含义。

If you have had your fill of something, you have had enough of it, and do not want to experience it any more or do it any more.

·We feel that we have had our fill of disappointments and emotional upsets.

我们觉得已经受够了失望和情绪困扰。

2. 方鸿渐午饭本没吃饱,这时候受不住大家的玩笑,不等菜上齐就跑了,余人笑得更利害。他立起来转身,看见背后站着侍候的阿刘,对自己心照不宣似的眨眼。

Fangactually hadn’t had enough to eat during lunch but now could no longer stand everyone’s teasing.Without waiting for all the dishes to beserved, he took off, causing the others to laugh even harder. As he stood up and turned around,he saw the waiter, Ah Liu, standingbehind him and giving him an understanding wink.

Takeoff: (突然)离开,走开,走掉 If you take offor take yourself off, you go away, often suddenly and unexpectedly.

Youcan use hard to indicate that something happens intensely and for a long time.

3. 鸿渐挥手道:“我要它干吗?”三脚两步上楼梯去,只听得阿刘在背后冷笑。他忽然省悟阿刘的用意,脸都羞热了。

Witha wave of the hand, Fang said, “What would I want with that?” and bounded up the steps two at a time, with Ah Liu laughing scornfully behind him. He suddenly realized what Ah Liu had had in mind and his face burned with shame.

He went up to sputter out the incident to Miss Pao, cursing that scoundrel Ah Liu. She gave a snort, but as others were coming up, there was no chance to say anymore.

Sputter(尤指因生气、震惊或激动)结结巴巴地说话,语无伦次地说话 If you sputter,you speak with difficulty and make short sounds, especially because you are angry, shocked, or excited.

5. 吃晚饭的时候,孙先生道:“今天临别纪念,咱们得痛痛快快打个通宵。阿刘有个舱,我已经二百法郎定下来了。”During dinner, Mr. Sun said, “Today, to mark our parting, we should live it up and gamble through the whole night. Ah Liu has an empty cabin which I’ve reserved for two hundred francs.”

Live it up:短语狂欢;享乐一番 If you live itup, you have a very enjoyable and exciting time, for example by going to lots of parties or going out drinking with friends.

·There is no reason why you couldn’t live it up once in a while.

偶尔放纵一下也无妨。

我看到钱第一个反应是用pay,完全没考虑后面的“定下来”。
