My Feelings after reading Wuthering Heights
Wuthering Heights is a well-written tragedy of love. After reading the whole story, I would like to talk about the main characters of the story—Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff. Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff do love each other very much, but they do not have the right attitude towards love, which leads to the tragedy.
In Catherine’s life, she made a very foolish decision---marrying to Edgar. In fact, her love for Edgar can never be compared to that for Heathcliff. She did so, because she thought the wealth of Edgar would be useful to help Heathcliff. But in reality, it did not work. She did not have a good understanding of love, which is something pure and saint. If anyone add any purpose into love, love itself lost its meaning. Catherine’s wrong decision hurt two people who love her, and even destroyed the happiness of their offspring.
Heathcliff is a man full of retaliation. He loved Catherine very much, but what he did, on the contrary, added to the misery of Catherine. In my opinion, if he really loved Catherine, he should not walk into Catherine’s life again after his disappearance. Further more, after the death of Catherine, what Heathcliff did brought agony to Catherine’s daughter, as well as his own son.
After reading, I have a better understanding of love. If you love really someone, his or her happiness is the thing that most matters

Learn to love and care

Here I am sitting on a couch alone, thinking about what I have just finished reading with tears of sadness filling my eyes and fire of indignation filling my heart, which revived my exhausted soul that has already been covered by the cruelty and the selfishness of the secular world for a long time. It is truly what I felt after reading Oliver Twist, written by the prominent British author Charles Dickens.

the resonance between me and the book makes me feel not only the kindness and the wickedness of all the characters in the novel, but what this aloof society lacks, and what I lack deep inside. These supreme resources I’m talking about right now are somewhat different from minerals, oil that we usually mention. They’re abstract like feelings, and some kinds of spiritual stimulation that all of us desire anxiously from one another —— love and care.

Those charitable figures whom Dickens created in the novel are really what we need in life. They showed love and care to others, just as the gentle rain from the sky fell upon the earth, which was carved into my heart deeply.
Mr. Brownlow is one such person.

the other day he had one of his elaborate watches stolen by two skilled teenage thieves, Artful Dodger and Charley Bates, and thought naturally it was Oliver, who was an orphan and forced to live with a gang of thieves, that had done it because he was the only one near by after the theft had taken place. Being wrathful, he caught Oliver, and sent him to the police station where the ill-tempered, unfair magistrates worked. Fortunately for him, Oliver was proved innocent by one onlooker afterwards. With sympathy, Mr. Brownlow took the injured, poor Oliver to his own home. There Oliver lived freely and gleefully for some months as if he were Mr. Brownlow’s own son. One day, however, Mr. Brownlow asked Oliver to return some books to the bookseller and to send some money for the new books that he had already collected. The thief Oliver once stayed with kidnapped him. After that he disappeared in Mr. Brownlow’s life. Searching for a while, Mr. Brownlow had to believe the fact that he had run away with his money. But dramatically, they came across each other again a few years later. Without hesitation, Mr. Brownlow took Oliver home for the second time not caring if he had done something evil.

Perhaps most of us would feel confused about Mr. Brownlow’s reaction. But as a matter of fact, this is just the lesson we should learn from him. Jesus said in the Bible. “Forgive not seven times, but seventy-times seven.” Why is that? Because forgiveness is our ability to remove negative thoughts and neutralize them so our energy may be spent on doing what we came here for. We cannot move forward in our future if past issues cloud our thinking. Stop put Mr. Brownlow into the list of your models. Always give people a second chance no matter what they might have done. That’s also a substantial part of loving and caring others.

then there are Mrs. Maylie and Rose, Oliver’s other benefactors. Maybe the reason they loved and cared Oliver was not because of forgiveness. In my point of view, it was trust. They had faith in Oliver when he was considered to be a filthy burglar who tried to break the front door of Maylie’s at midnight. But this wasn’t how these two ladies saw the whole thing. They denied Oliver’s crime immediately and listened attentively to Oliver’s own description of his miserable life. They were deeply touched by Oliver’s strong perseverance and astonishing vitality. Accordingly, they remedied Oliver’s body and heart and turned him into a different boy. He began to wear appropriate and clean suits which were tailor-made for him and receive education.

As far as we can see, it is trust that helps us all live together without precaution. Sometimes trust can even lead us to miracles, which we often expect to come about, so why not trust? Trust yourself, trust others, and you’ll salute miracles every single day.

In the novel, though the young Oliver again and again fell for conspiracies of those hideous thieves, who tried to torture Oliver’s body and poisoned Oliver’s heart intensely, he always lived on and tried hard to seek for his own life. Then I realized what supported him all through were actually beliefs. In most cases, what you believe is what you’ll become. Believe that you are unlimited, that you can do anything you commit to doing, and when you do, your accomplishments will know no bounds. You control your beliefs and that is how you ultimately control your life. It’s all dictated by your attitude.

In the final analysis, love and care contain numerous forms, there are love of forgiveness, love of trust, etc. but they all come from your beliefs in life. When someone tells you he’s deceived you, forgive him anyway, when someone tells you what he’s done, trust him anyway, and when you face adversities while chasing your dreams, think about your beliefs, then what hinders you will become a piece of cake in no time.

So find out “Olivers” in your life and do as Mr. Brownlow and Mrs. Maylie do: love them and care them, which cost nothing but save much. They enrich those who receive, without impoverishing those who give. They can be certain smallest words or actions, but the memory of them sometimes last forever.

Charles Dickens said:“Love makes the world go around.” These immortal words have inspired and will keep on inspiring us to chant the melody of love and to say the prayer of care forevermore. Let us, therefore, enjoy life and treat other people lovingly. These principles are the roots and foundations of beliefs supporting this article and our mission together.

1.《Jane Eyre》

I have read a book called 《Jane Eyre》. I think the story was very interesting. The girl called Jane Eyre was very brave.

Jane was an orphan. She lived in her aunt’s house. Her aunt didn’t like her, so she took her to an orphanage. Jane studied in the orphanage and learned a lot of things. When Jane grew up, she worked as a governess in a big family and taught the child in this family. Bit by bit, Jane and her master Mr Rochester came to fall in love with each other. But the master had a wife. She was a madwoman. When Jane knew this, she left her teaching post.

But she could not forget her master. So, at last, she visited her master. At that time, her master’ house was burnt down and he became handicapped. His mad wife died in the big fire. Jane decided to get married with him and look after him.

Jane Eyre found his real love and she was a happy woman. The most important thing is that Jane believed everybody were equal. Do you think so?

2. Notes on《Out of nowhere》

I am a boy, so I like playing basketball very much. Every Sunday, I like watching NBA on TV. I have read an article from English Salon. This article is “Out of nowhere”. It is about an NBA player in Dallas Mavericks. His name is Dirk Nowitzki. This article tells us Nowitzki is from Germany. He is able to sprint up court like a swing-man. However, he practices every day.

I think studying is like playing basketball. We must work harder and harder. And we must try our best to study each subject well. If we do like this, I think we will do well in our subjects as Nowitzki plays basketball. We can also “Out of Nowhere” in studying.

3. After reading 《Harry Potter》

When I read the article “Harry Potter returns” I was very excited because there will be a new book:《Harry Potter and the Half – blood Prince》《Harry Potter》 is one of my favourite books. The first five books are very wonderful and strange. I think the sixth book is worth waiting for.

I have already read the five books. I think many people like 《Harry Potter》too. They also hope the sixth new book will come to China as soon as possible because people can not wait to read the new book. We are looking forward to the new book, because we are true readers. 《Harry Potter》is really interesting, wonderful and makes people excited.

After reading this article, I also learn many new words, for example, hints, characters, worth and blood.

Reading books or newspapers can bring many benefits, we can get a lot of useful information, and we can study many things as well. Reading is good for us and it can help us to study. I advise all students to read as many books as they can.

4. After reading The Coldest Place on the Earth

Do you know where the coldest place on the Earth is? Yes, it’s the Antarctica, or the South Pole.

People arrived in the Antarctica in December 14th, 1911. And this book, the Coldest Place on the Earth, tells us a sad story in it. A team from Britain and another team from Norway were in this race, they all wanted to be the first team to get to the South Pole. They also hope that the flag of their country could be the first to wave in the sky of the South Pole. In the end, the Norwegians were the first with their captain Amundsen. But the Britain team with their captain Scott died in the Antarctica. Robert Scott and his friends were dead in the Antarctica, but they showed their spirit: always be brave and confident; never give up.

We should do everything confidently. There are many difficulties in our study, work and life. But we should be brave, and have courage. We should go on along our road. Then we can see the hope. We’ll succeed.

But you know, many people give up when they face difficulties. They think that: ‘I can’t go over this difficulty. I must go back.’ That’s wrong. All of us have this ability to overcome difficulties.

5. The real beauty

When I became a 12-year-girl, I started to pick on my appearance. I didn’t like to stand in front of the mirror, and I was really self-contemptuous. I thought I don’t have big enough eyes, or a slim and tall figure. But when I read the article by Chang Mengsu, I changed my thought.

The topic of the article is “Beauty is only skin deep”. Chang Mengsu cared too much about her appearance before. She realized the real beauty from Mr. Hawking. Now, she knows physical figure is unimportant; we can become beautiful inside ourselves. We have to stop worrying about our appearance. To to be happy, be confident, find our true selves and build up our inner beauty can make us really beautiful.

Her article led me to think about the real beauty again. She’s right. So, I thought of some successful people and the people around me. I think Pan Changjiang is a good example. He is very short and not handsome. But he is confident. As an comic actor, he brings a lot of fun to audiences all over our country. Everyone thinks that he is really lovely. Another example is J.K. Rowling. When she was young, she was very needy and had poor eyesight. Some children liked to laugh at her. But Rowling is brave and gritty. When Rowling published her series of Harry Potter, she became very rich and happy. All of her readers like her very much and they don’t care of her appearance.

Pan Changjiang’s and Rowling’s stories tell me, the real beauty is in the heart. I will be beautiful as long as I have good qualities. I am not good-looking, never mind. I have a good sense of humour, I am very kind, and these good characters make me beautiful. Now, I like my own self. Every morning, I smile to myself in the mirror. I say to the mirror, “Look, what a beautiful girl!”

6. Honesty is treasure --After reading « Sara Says No! »

« Sara Says No! » written by Norman Whitney is an unforgettable short story. Sara and his father Mr. Fruit were fruit vendors. But she found that her father always cheated their customers. She told her father not to do so, but her father didn’t agree with her. She said a prayer to the god. Then a miracle came and helped Mr. Fruit understand that honesty is treasure.

After reading this book, I thought about a little thing when I was young. That was a summer vacation. I went to the seaside with my parents. There I saw two women selling seashells in their baskets. But many people liked to buy shells from the older woman, and only a couple of people asked the younger one how much the shells were.
I felt it was very strange. The shells were the same, but why did people like to buy shells from the woman who was older? I asked a local people. I knew the younger woman’s shells were not good. She picked up the broken shells and made them look perfect with glue.

Oh, I know! The younger woman was dishonest, so people didn’t believe her, so she couldn’t get more money.

Some people say that businessmen are double-dealings, or they cannot earn much money. But I don’t think so. You see, honest vendors always are worth relying on, they are kind and helpful. So people can buy things from them securely and buy things from them often. And if people buy something bad from dishonest vendors, they will never buy things from them. Honesty is a kind of treasure. That’s true. We must believe it and it will pay us when we are in need.

7. Good Spirit Makes You Brave --After reading «A New Year's surprise»

A New Year’s surprise by John Milne is a wonderful story. It tells us how a girl called Kaya could defeat a robber who had a gun in his hand. And she is only 17 years old! Kaya used her courage and wisdom to beat the robbers. Finally she became a superstar because of her excellent deed.

After reading this book, I thought about my life. Sometimes I was brave but sometimes I was a coward. People always have their own weak side. Some people often show how brave they are and how strong they are, but when a disaster comes, they always run away quickly and scream more loudly than any other people. So, we should try our best and show our bravey when something or somebody is in danger.

Something happens out of the blue and you donn't have much time to think about it, so remember: whatever anything happens, don't evade it, but treat it as a challenge. Someday you will find you can solve the problem and you are the winner! Good spirit makes you be brave, if you really want to learn how to be a brave man or woman, you must have a good spirit, and you must try to face anything and to do everything with your courage and wisdom.

Well, life is always full of frustrations, but you must know how to solve your problems, and you must be brave. But what can make you be brave? Only good spirit!

8. Don't let human live alone

«The Star Zoo» is a sad story. In this book, people lived alone in a star called ‘Just Like Home’. There were no other living things, only human beings. The world was boring. But a girl named ‘Humming bird’ discovered a star which is full of all kinds of animals by accident. Suddenly, many people arrived. They killed all kinds of animals and left.

‘Why people killed our friends? ’ I asked myself after I read this book. Nothing else! People only think about themselves! They killed animals for food, for their fur, or even for fun! Some people caught wild animals and took them to the zoo. The animals lost their freedom, lost their joy and lost their families. Fewer and fewer people thought about animals’ feelings!

The animated cartoon called «Finding Nemo» just tells us about protecting our friends and our conscience. Never let our friends go far away from us, never lose our conscience, and never destroy the environment.

Between Animals and human beings there are not many differences -- just like what I said before. And we are a big family; we share the world together, so we should love each other, just like a song: ‘ we are the world, we are the children…’.
