海洋产业是指人类直接开发和利用海洋、海岸带资源所进行的生产和服务活动。主要表现在以下方面：①直接从海洋中获取产品的生产和服务；②直接从海洋中获取的产品的一次加工生产和服务；③直接应用于海洋和海洋开发活动的产品生产和服务；④利用海水或海洋空间作为生产过程的基本要素所进行的生产和服务；⑤与海洋密切相关的科学研究、教育、服务和管理。
主要海洋产业是指海洋经济发展的主导和基础产业。主要是指具有一定规模的、具有相当发展空间的海洋主导产业。
其他海洋产业是指中华人民共和国海洋行业标准《国家经济统计分类与代码》（HY/T052-1999）中规定的（现有统计的主要海洋产业除外）所有海洋产业。包括：海洋石油化工、滩涂林业、海洋地质勘查业、海事保险、海洋专用设备制造、航运信息服务业、海洋环境保护、海洋科研教育等。
海洋产业总产值是指各类海洋产业总产值之和。目前海洋产业总产值是指海洋渔业及相关产业、海洋石油和天然气、海滨砂矿、海洋盐业、海洋化工、海洋生物医药、海洋船舶工业、海洋电力、海水综合利用、海洋工程建筑、海洋交通运输、滨海旅游、其他海洋产业等产业总产值之和。
Explanatory Notes on Main Statistical Indicators
Marine Industry-refers to the production and service activities carried out by the human beings for direct exploitation and utilization of oceanic and coastal resources. It mainly includes the following aspects: ① production and services relating to direct acquisition of products from the ocean; ② primary processing and services relating to direct acquisition of products from the ocean;③ production and services relating to products directly applied in the ocean and oceanic development activities; ④ production and services for using seawater or oceanic space as the essential element of the production process; ⑤ scientific research, education, services, and management closely related to the ocean.
Major Marine Industries-refer to pillar and fundamental industries for marine economic development.They are mainly marine pillar industries with a fairly large scale and large development potentials.
Other Marine Industries-refer to all the marine industries (except major marine industries in the current statistics) stipulated in the standards of the marine industry of the People’s Republic of China “Statistical Classification of the State Economy and the Statistical Codes”, including the marine petrochemical industry, beach forestry, marine geological exploration, maritime insurance, special marine equipment manufacturing, maritime navigation information services, marine environmental protection, and marine scientific research and education.
Gross Output Value of Marine Industry-refers to the sum of the gross output values of various marine industries. Currently the gross output value of marine industry refers to the sum of the gross output values of marine fishery and its related industries, offshore oil and natural gas, beach placers, marine salt industry, marine chemical industry, marine biopharmacy and health products, shipbuilding industry, marine power, comprehensive seawater utilization, marine engineering, marine transportation, beach tourism, and other marine industries.
