歌手约翰·传奇早年经历
约翰·传奇出生于美国俄亥俄州，从小接受家庭教育，家中有一台钢琴。五岁时，他开始利用这台钢琴学着练习弹奏歌曲。八九岁时，他已经开始在当地的一些教堂里为教堂唱诗班弹钢琴伴奏了。
通过奶奶教授给他的一些福音音乐歌曲，不久之后约翰·传奇已经开始独立的演奏歌曲了。中学时，约翰·传奇开始录制一些小型唱片，并喜欢上了大人小孩双拍档、LL Cool J等艺人的歌曲。
16岁高中毕业后，进入宾夕法尼亚大学主修英语语言文学，期间还组建了一支爵士乐队，所翻唱的歌曾荣获最佳校园歌曲奖。1998年，约翰·传奇在劳伦·希尔的歌曲《Everything Is Everything》中进行了背景钢琴演奏。此外，他还成为了费城外的Bethel A.M.E.教堂唱诗班的导演。
毕业后，约翰·传奇在费城、纽约、华盛顿等地的酒吧演出。演出同时，他也会录制唱片在演出时出售。通过努力他也渐渐开始和一些R&B艺人一起演出，并且开始在一些艺人的唱片中露面。而他的一些现场唱片也引起了制作人坎耶·维斯特的注意，他的大学室友哈里斯（坎耶的表亲）把他引见给了坎耶。坎耶在看了几场他的表演之后，随即把约翰·传奇带到了自己的团队中。
