马戏团起源：

马戏团传统起源于约莫公元前500年的古希腊，在最早的奥林匹克竞赛上，每个比赛项目间的娱性节目为：人们在竞技场上发出嘶吼并单脚骑乘在2匹没有上马鞍的马上来娱乐观众。

这项传统继而由罗马人慢慢整合建立起来。性格多变的罗马人是一个不变的根源—关心着那些能够确保罗马的人们能免于饥饿与枯燥的君王们。

第一个同时也是最大型的马戏表演场是Maximus马戏表演场，它将近1/3英里长并设有250000个座位数，这个场地当初是为了两轮战车竞技、马术展览、斗剑者与追猎野兽用，不管是人或是野兽，最终都被迫相互决斗求生死。

这是免入场费的，在休息时间，民众可以到马戏团外围的拱廊骑楼等地逛一逛，那里有卖馅饼,水果派、点心、酒类和其它生活日用品。
