一、词义不同
1、in hand 本义在手中，引申义可用于强调（局势）在控制下，在掌握中;（工作或问题）办理中的，处理中的;（时间或金钱）宽余的;（比赛）尚待进行。
2、on hand 在手头；在近处；现有。强调在手头、已经准备好的。
3、at hand 在手边，在附近，即将来临。强调在附近，随时可用的。
4、off hand 马上；立即；无需询问（或查证）。
二、用法不同
1、in hand 通常用于表示在手中，在掌握中，强调手中掌控的物或事，随时可用、随时可做。介词短语可以作宾语补足语，或定语等。
I thought I had my destiny in hand, but then fate played a trick on me.
我以为我把命运掌握在手中，可是随后命运就捉弄了我。
The image of him trudging into the room after a cold shower, a frozenwater bottle in hand to sleep next to, was too funny.
冲凉后费劲地走入屋子的他的景象，在手中拿着睡觉放在旁边的冰水瓶，太滑稽了。
2、on hand 用于指在手边、在附近。强调手头现有的、已经准备好的。介词短语可以作宾语补足语等。
I always like to keep a certain amount of money on hand .
我总爱在手边保留一定数量的钱。
3、at hand 可用于指即将临近，还可用于指在手边、在附近，常用 close、near、 ready 前置修饰之。侧重强调就在手边、近处，随时可用之。在句中可作状语、补语或后置定语。
Whenever I want to write something, I always have a dictionary (close) at hand.
每当我想写点什么，我总在手边放一本字典。
4、off hand 指立刻，无准备的。可以用作状语。
I cannot give you a reply off hand.
我不能立刻给你答复。
三、除“在手边、在附近”之外的其他含义不同
1、in hand 指（工作或问题）办理中的，处理中的;（时间或金钱）宽余的;（比赛）尚待进行。
We should finish the work we have in hand before we begin something new.
我们需要把手头的工作先干完再开始新的工作。
2、on hand 还表示在场、到场。
He will be on hand today afternoon.
他今天下午将到场。
3、at hand 还可表示即将来临的意思。常于near等连用。
The examination is near at hand.
考试临近了。
4、off hand 马上；立即；无需询问（或查证）。
Anything else missing? A:I've no idea off hand.
